IRCAdmin.Net Is For Sale! - Serious Inquiries Only!

Welcome to the WinBNC Information Page on IRCAdmin.net

*NOTE: WinBNC is only useful if you are connecting to it from a different computer OTHER than the one this program is ran on. Most Windows computers DO NOT have vhosts or multiple IP Addresses. Trying to use a VHOST that is not assigned to your computer by a NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR or INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER is stupid and pointless. You CANNOT make up VHosts to use them. You CANNOT fake your IP Address. Most people use this program to connect to IRC from their work when their work will not allow IRC. If you want a vhost or to hide your IP Address, get a shell on a shell server (this costs MONEY) and have them host it for you. IRCAdmin.Net DOES NOT provide shells for free or for sale - DONT ASK!!!

How To Install

1) Unzip the winbnc282.zip. Use Winzip or PKZip. I suggest creating a directory on your computer called bnc - We are going to be using this for reference.

2) Open Notepad (Start Menu -> Run -> type "notepad" and hit Enter)

3) You should now be in the Notepad editor. Now you must configure the BNC. Go to the File Menu and select Open. Change the directory to the directory you unzipped the files into. Look for a file called bnc.cfg. If you do not see any files, there is a drop down box that says 'Files of Type' - if it says "Text Files" then click on it and change it to 'All Files'. You can also just type bnc.cfg in the 'File Name' box.

4) You are now editing the configuration. The short documentation that is in there preceded by a # explains all of the config settings. The first thing you need to do is assign a port to the BNC - this is the line that says "listen 9000". You can keep it at 9000 or change it to a port between 1 and 65535. I suggest keeping the port above 1024. Next change the password and adminpass lines. These define the password that is used to connect (the password line) and the password to control the BNC (boot people, view users, etc) - this is the adminpass line. Change it to whatever you want it to be - I suggest that they not be the same. The rest of the options can be left alone.

5) Once you have finished editing the configuration, save it as bnc.cfg. To do this, go to the File menu and select 'Save As...'. Make sure it is still in the same directory as the rest of the BNC files. Make sure the 'Save as Type' is 'All Files' and NOT 'Text Documents (*.txt)'. Type bnc.cfg in the 'File Name' box.

6) Now you are ready to run the BNC. You can run it by one of three ways:

A) Option 1 - go to the Start menu -> 'Run...' -> 'Browse...' -> then locate the BNC which is probably in c:\bnc\ (double click on bnc.exe or bnc282.exe) -> 'OK'.

B) Option 2 - Load the Windows Explorer (Start Menu -> Programs -> Windows Explorer OR Start Menu -> 'Run...' -> type explorer in the 'Open' box and hit enter.) and locate the BNC program and double click on bnc.exe (or bnc282.exe).

C) Option 3 - Make a shortcut on the Desktop (Right click on the Desktop -> New -> Shortcut -> 'Browse...' and then locate the BNC program and double click on bnc.exe (or bnc282.exe) -> Put BNC as the name of the shortcut -> 'Finish') and that way you can have easy access to the BNC program.

Once you have done all this, please continue on to the How To Use Guide to learn how to get connected to your BNC below.

How To Use

1) After you have started BNC, a windows screen will pop-up, and if everything is ok, it will just sit there.

NOTE: The window CAN be minimized. When minimized, it places itself on the system tray.

2) Connecting to you bnc server.

A) Open your IRC Client.
B) type /server host.whatever.com:1234
What is 1234?
1234 is the port which is needed to connect to your bnc (The number after listen in the configuration file).

What is host.whatever.com?
host.whatever.com is the IP or Hostname of the hosting computer (your computer's IP). If your IP is 123.123.123.123 then that is the IP you use.

How do I find my IP?
When you are connect to IRC from the computer that will be hosting your BNC, providing you're using mIRC, type //echo $ip and hit enter. This will show you your IP Address.

C) When you have done this you should see
[12:34] -host.whatever.com- You need to say /quote PASS
Do exactly what it says type:
/quote PASS yourpasswordhere (in mIRC, you can simply do /pass )
D) Then it should say:
[12:35] -host.whatever.com- Welcome to BNC v2.8.2, the irc proxy
[12:35] -host.whatever.com- Level two, lets connect to something real now
[12:35] -host.whatever.com- type /quote conn [server] to connect
[12:35] -host.whatever.com- type /quote help for basic list of commands and usage

To connect to an irc server type:
/quote conn irc.prison.net 6667

Substitute irc.prison.net for whatever IRC server you usually connect to.

If you have done all of this correctly you should be connected to an IRC server via your BNC right now.. =D

No Longer Developed!

As with most IRC-related applications, BNC and WinBNC is no longer being developed. Please do not expect any updates to this page. Additionally, we will not answer ANY questions about BNC. Please do not email us asking for help!
